Found this 1955S/S/S with mixed feelings. Glad to have found it but disapointed in the condition of the coin. Looks to have been of a high grade then cleaned with a wire brush.Crying or Very sad

Steven,
Too bad about the coins condition, but as Pete said, it's still a very nice find.
I also want to welcome Pete to the forum. I hope you enjoy the forum and welcome your inputs.

Steven: That is a SUPER RPM. One of my favorites. But it can always be replaced when you get another one and sold or traded for another coin. Not hard to unload this one because of demand for it.
Pete: Welcome to Coppercoins. You've probably been busy reading to catch up to speed. But a wealth of information is on the forum. If you run across information that you really need, just copy that thread to a word page and you can save it so you can benefit from it later. There is also a search engine for find DD's/RPMs. So check this out also. Even a section in the forum to search for information/contact members/add to your profile. So it you need help after reading the information, please chime in on it. Again WELCOME ABOARD.

I have one of these 55-s rpm 1 that I think must be from the last state of the die. It's mostly red and uncleaned but it looks horrible! I keep it as an example of how they know when to retire a die. It looks like they polished the reverse die so much that the only letter left in ONE is the E and CENT looks like CLNT and it has horrible die scratches. The obverse is not as bad but lacks detail in the portrait. The RPM is still very nice even on this coin.

Just wondering if your coin might be similar to this?

I still kept it as an example of this neat SSS!

The one I'm looking at is a later state, looks like they polished the die with a 60 grit sandpaper.
