But First you have to buy cases and say they are attributed. He says nothing out of line, but you have to wear your hip boots to get thru the hype!

Murph,
Your first post with the massive broadstrike-brockage looks like the real deal. Kinda hard to duplicate that in the garage. As far as the guy selling the dollar coin with the strike doubling...as coop mentioned, he has done nothing wrong in his auction. He just makes it seem better than it is. I have no idea of who half of these grading companies are. I would stay away from all of them except the best known companies. Pretty professional having 'Doubled Full Reverse' on the slab...huh??

Real as far as what he states thy are ...
Fake as far as them being worth anything ...
That's just another example of why people must educate themselves if thy are buying to re-sell or put away for their kids. (sadly ... thinking wrongly, their worth)
But then again ... people collect most anything. (not knowing any better)

The first clue something is wrong is when AGPCoins is the seller and the slab is AGP Certified. I am starting a line of pre-owned rollmeupabe certified searched for nothing wheaties. Since you guys are like friends and family I will give you the discout price of half a dime for each penny.

Looks to me like the second one used to have two 4's in the date.

I agree and if you look at the rims of both coins, the first one is the wider fuller rim typical of that year. The second coin has the thin rim that is typical of the 1944-S Cents. Probably someone honing there skills to make a 1914-D Cent?

Thanks smed and Coop for confirming my thoughts on this coin. I also felt that it was supposed to have two 4 in the date and that is what I wrote to the seller. Another piece of the puzzle on this coin is that the mint marks are different with the larger being on the man made coin. To my knoweldge, there was only one type of mint mark used in 1914 at the San Fransisco mint. Don't know if he will pull it off the market or not; just have to wait and see.

Just an up-date on the re-worked 1914-S. The seller was a very reasonable person and pulled the auction. Wish that there were more like this Ebayer, a person with sense of responsibility.

Good job guys. It seems that there are more 'decent' people on Ebay than I thought. Most of the ones I have written to about their questionable coins have also been more than willing to pull the item. As stated many times, education is the key. If you approach the person the right way, many times it will pay off. Thanks again for policing up our hobby. Keep it up, and don't get frustrated when you run into the bad apples.

I find a lot of collectors that don't know what they have, good or bad and almost all welcome your opinion. I welcome them to check out the coppercoins.com/ site and see what they can learn about Lincoln Cents. A few here are ones that I sent messages to. Its a great place to be.
