Good Day Everyone; This is my first attempt at using your board. I just found a 2006 P with something different and hoped you could help. As you can see the letters have horns so to speak instead of notches. Any opinions as to is this something or nothing special.

Thanks
Willie-E

Welcome Willie-E,
I've seen another posting here with a similar anomily but can't seem to find it right now and can't remmember what the replies were. I'm sure someone will come along with an answer for you. Everyone here is willing to help and there are a lot of good people here. I will keep looking. Nice photos.

That anomaly is 'probably' the result of die polishing with a rotary brush. The bristles of the brush, while turning, fall into the cavity of the letter and bunch up at the corner on their way out causing more bristles to pass through the corner of the letter than in other areas. This causes the corners of the letters in the die to polish away more completely than the edges.

Hi Wille-E,
The photos you posted are of a anomaly that has been found in many 2006P rolls. I found about 20 of them and sent a few to one of our members who is doing a study on them. Within the same grouping, but of a far less number, were the 'tails' running west on LIBERTY, as well as a couple where the 'tails ran west from the 2 and 0 of the date.
There is some discussion on these in other forums as well. I will try to keep you posted on the outcome of those discussions.
Chuck's (coppercoins) diagnosis is prevalent among many collectors, but not all. We will see if something else comes of this because it has shown up on the reverse of some 1994, 1996, and 1998 coins as well.

Welcome to the forum and coppercoins. We hope you can participate often.
