As you sift through the nine plus pages of error coins per day on Ebay, you eventually come across a few that totally baffle one as to what the person was thinking when he or she put the coin on for auction. This is one of those cases.

1962 D CENT PENNY -ERROR?
Normally I would write to the person who has an errant description on their auction, however, what would you write to this person? How would you explain that the coin he or she sees as valuable is nothing more than a mangled piece of copper?
That is the value of this site, a place that you can learn what an error is, what a variety is and stop you from making such a glaring mistake as this person has done. The more people that know about this site, the better off this hobby shall be.
I know that Bob has written to people about auctions that are not what they are and I will also write and try tactfully to persuade a person who has errred in their listing to either change it or pull it. Both of us have had some success and at other times, a refusal to face facts. All you can do is try.
You all have a good one

On a positive note this seller removed the item for sale. It would be hard to believe they did not know this was just a mangled cent, but then again.

Looks like someone may have contacted the person and expressed what the coin actually was.
Unfortunetly for the seller, it was a waste of time and just added a few more cents into Ebays pocket. Oh well!

I must be getting harsh in my old age, but how can someone NOT know that this is nothing more than a mangled, beat up cent? I may be off base here, but I think this seller was probably just trying to find someone out there to bite on this one. In this case, the seller deserves to pay an ebay fee...just for being bold enough for listing the piece of junk.
