Surprised no one grabbed it before you did.

What are the chances a kid got into someone's collection and is spending it?

The reverse is lacking the normal circulation marks. It was sitting on top of about 6-8 pennies, obverse up. I picked it up and looked at the reverse, Shocked and I was NOT going to put it back down. I asked the clerk if I could swap a penny for it because it looked interesting. Wink

Could be some kid was given a collection and decided to spend it. Needless to say, I looked at ALL the pennies in that cup. Could not convince the clerk to let me have a look see at the cash drawer pennies. Sad Don't blame them for saying no. Can't blame me for trying.

Not every day you can find a fifty something year old penny that looks that nice. Good find!

That was pretty ballsy of you John asking to look at the pennies in the cash drawer, in some neighborhoods you might have gotten a gun pointed at you! Laughing

At first I offered to buy his pennies, then he set my head back straight telling me he needed them for change. That is when I asked if I could look though them. Hey, if you don't ask, you don't get..... Laughing Although, I never thought about the gun part..... Shocked Exclamation

Nearly the same thing happened to me recently. While in a local store, I saw a wheat penny in their penny tray. I picked it up, and it turned out to be a VG 1913D! You just never know where you will find a nice coin.

You might do that in your state, but it sure as hell won't happen in "sunny old California"! Finding a coin like the ones you guys mentioned, reminds me of my "good luck", while I had a small grocery store in Los Mochis, SIN. Mex., many years ago. Some kids came in wanting to buy something, and paid for it with a fist full of $5 peso coins, worth about $8.00 USD, each, then (1986).
