what could have caused this angled upper 6th bay? thanks for your input.PS.this coin does include the NW 'doubling' on pillars 2-6 as seen here on this site (and the more pictures link).though the verdict is still out on the 1998+99 pillars.i thought 'maybe' this might add something to the puzzle more pictureshttp://tinyurl.com/pj5f9

It clearly looks like a die gouge to me.
In addition, there has not been anything recently to add to the 98D and 99D upper column doubling. A very minor but interesting doubling that I have still only managed to find on 1998D or 1999D coins.

Bob
That was done by the electrician when he was crawling around in the attic of the Lincoln Memorial and his foot slipped. He almost fell through the celing.~lucky2

Interesting die and it is similar to John Wexler's 2004, 1C WDDR-007, which shows on extra arch in bay # 5. This might be just that, an extra part of the arch.

Robert...I knew that electrician! You are correct in that it looks like the ceiling is about to fall through. Thanks to my daughter, I have one of those break-outs in my garage!

BJ...I don't think this could be an extra part of the arch. The texture and strength of the gouge leads me to believe that it is a tooling gouge or something. Of course...I have been wrong twice this year already...so anything is possible Laughing
