Is it possible for a 1990d to be as thick as the copper pennies but only weigh what the zinc ones do. I weighed the 1990d and it weighed the same as any other zinc one but it looks thicker.

It is possible. The weight diference is because of the elements used (copper vs. zinc).

I think it is on the setup on the rim that is higher making it appear thicker. Same planchet, just wider at the rim. I noticed that from several years in the 90's.

I kind of thought that myself, the rim did seem higher. I even tryed measuring it.
