Please see the pics relating to my questions. The IGWT motto show signs (South) of strike doubling. Some of the Northerly portions of the letters have indentations. Are those "dents" also caused from the same strike doubling?
Having said that, now also look at the tip of the upper loop on the 9 in date, as well as the very tip of the 6 in date. The area on the 9 appears to be dented down, while the tip of the 6 almost appears as a split. No flat shelf-like aspects in these areas which made be wonder if it could be doubling of some sort other than strike.
Some of the 'dents' you refer too could be made by the same strike doubling, but I believe it may be part of the ejection process...not the strike. As far as the notch on the 6 of the date, it is from a broken die. This anomaly is present on a lot of coins from this date meaning it is probably on the master die. _________________ Bob Piazza

Sometimes marks similiar to this is caused by bag nicks. Caused by the shipping/bagging and rolling process. _________________ Richard S. Cooper
