Greetings!

I had this very interesting discovery while cracking open an OBW roll of uncirculated 1955-D Lincoln cents.

The two coins exhibit what I believe to be a great example of die crack progression, probably in a very narrow stamping time frame.

In particular, note how the "blob" of metal in the middle of the upper die crack grows from small to much larger on the second coin. (see photos links below)

I wonder if the entire die crack progressed enough later on to get a true "capped" Lincoln into circulation? Does anybody have an example out there perhaps? Looks like it had great potential to do so.

Just thought it would be neat to show an apparent progression, something not always easy to find.

Would very much welcome thoughts, comments, observations! - THANKS

Coins made in the 50's 60's are showing a lot of die failure becaused they used the dies till they died. Faily common to find the cracks on the head during those years. The 1955 Poor man's doubled die is evidence that that happened. I bought a roll of 1955 Cents and found 17 of them out of 50. So I wondered how many dies were repersented and found at least 9 different markers in a roll. The die wear is severe on them as evidenced by the worn out devices on the 5. Not a real doubled die, in fact if you spent all your money on them, you would be the poor man in the end as they are no real premium.

That is a nice example of die crack progression. In this case, the crack is pretty severe, so I don't think it would take too many more strikes before it got much worse.
I have a set of pictures that show progression of a filled letter that is very intesting as well. As soon as I dig them up, I'll post them here. Very nice pictures!
