I just picked up a roll of AU/BU Lincolns that were labeled close D. This is something that I have not heard about before. Is there any significance to the Close and Far D on the 1980D cent or was this just some collector with time on his hands?
Thanks~lucky2

That is something new to me. I don't think anyone collects that as far as I know. On Ebay you never know. Close to what? Date/bust/rim. Not sure, but what would seem the obious number would be close to the date. I would look to make sure he didn't mean a RPM close to the D? I would look close to one to see what he is talking about before I would put them back into circulation. Any images? Maybe someone else could see what is/isn't going on. Check for not just the mintmark, but letters that have a D. GOD/UNITED, it could be a machine double there.

Coop
I checked a different roll that I had and it appears that this roll is mixed 25/75% close D to the Date is the 75. There is nothing else in either roll.~lucky2

Well I've never heard anything about, them. Maybe others can help. Location of the mintmark doesn't seem to be relative to a premium as far as I know. Let's see if others chime in on this thread.

I have never heard of the close D either. I would suspect it was strictly someones notes for locations of the mintmark in respect to the date.
