A while back I found 2 nice unc 49-s which I thought were the ddo die-1. I sent one to ANACs and they sent it back without the attrib saying not the requested variety Evil or Very Mad I thought they must be wrong since at that time I thought there's just the one blunt over pointed 4 ddo for the year. (I think it was the only one listed here then) Recently I was looking on the site and saw there's 2 blunt over pointed 4 varieties listed and ones also an rpm but that one is not die 1 Idea I looked and realized I had one of each and the one I had sent in was the one with the rpm so ANACs was right since that one is not die 1. So I can chalk it up as another mystery solved by this site!

Does anyone know if the second one 1D0-002/1MM-013 was recently added to this site?

Ed,
I discovered the new DDO/RPM combo in November of last year. I put out a thread in the forum asking folks to check their DDO # 001's to make sure they had that DDO, and not the one with the RPM. It turned out that there were about 6 or seven folks who found out theirs also contained an RPM. I added that die to the site in November 2005. As far as I know, we are the only ones to identify this second blunt 4 over pointed 4 doubled die and RPM combination.

Thanks bob,

That fits the timeframe, I must have looked just before you added the DDO/RPM combo.

I'm still amazed that Anacs figured out that the one I submitted was not the same as DDO-1, the timeframe was about right so they might have read your thread to know there were 2 types of blunt over pointed 4s.

It amazes me too Ed. Unless they immediately picked up on the RPM, there would have been no way for them to know it wasn't the same as DDO-001. The mintmark positioning is close but not exact, and the doubling is also. I know they don't spend a lot of time on each coin, so maybe markers were the determining factor??

I find it odd that they would return the coin instead of holdering it with the proper number...I guess they don't do that??

I think the reason is when you submit to ANACs you can pay $10 for their attribution then they figure it out. In this case I didn't do that since I thought there was only one type of blunt over pointed 4 for the year.

Or you pay $5 for verification and you tell them the variety, if you are wrong they just holder with no attribution. On a few occasions they will say DDO but not which one. In this case they just holdered it with nothing but grade.
