Why don't they issue a coin for all the duds they've created? Well I guess they don't have to, they are all still circulating! LOL

And then next will be the Circulating Commemorative County Seat Cents. Four different counties will be honored each year for 647 years. That will be a fun set to collect!!!

Then, after some 500 years have passed...a new national monument will be founded as storage for the excess tonnage of commemorative coins--shaped into the likenesses of past presidents, which in turn will get its own special-issue coin...

I do think the mint has gone from one extreme to another. But if I had to choose going back to the 1932-1974 and 1977 to 1998 design vs. having new and sometimes bad reverse designs multiple times a year -- I'd take the latter just for the variety.
IMO - the mint should limit it to 1 design a year and work a little harder not to let subpar designs into the mix. But over all - I do like to see something different from one year to the next on at least one denomination of coinage.

I have to agree with all the above! The mint is getting ideas from the RCM in Canada, I think. With the coinage, (garbage) that has come out the last few years, and the cents since '82. I just wonder when they will come out with a set of my familty members? I can just imagine a "completed set of Dinasaurs", and all the associated "flying objects" that were flying around at that time!

Ed, I'm not too sure of that! The creativity, and originality shown in the last few years makes me think, <"all the good ones are gone", so we have to use what we have. All tose "dinky dollars", andpresidents dollars, YUCK! I look back over the yeaers in the pages of the coin books, an posts, ans ee hudreds of ideas that could be used, but the ABILITY just does not seem to be there! Canada has a thousand, (literally) different themes for the coinage, and they seem to use it descretely, in that the mintages are not excessive, thereby flooding the country with more coins that are necessary. I have not been very receptive to the "painted ASE's, or the "Holograms", but after having gotten into the Canadian coinage, have seen a lot of the painted, and hologrammed coins. I still don't like the "golden quarters"! They are not numismatically valuable, and as bullion, BS! More like junk. There is no rhyme, or reason for them ever having been numismatically destroyed!

Dick,
It's like modern car designs, the best ones are remakes of old designs, the new stuff just isn't the same. I can't imagine in the future anyone restoring the junk cars of today. It also might not be possible to replace all that plastic. My last car project was a 59 chevy apache truck, it was so easy. Even the dash is painted steel. Not much plastic in that.
For modern mint products the ones people like best like SAEs and Buff gold are re-makes of good old designs, it seems like the new one's lack what the old ones had naturaly.

Sigh. Forgive me for saying...these are dull.
I've seen better renderings of the PR sentry tower on bottles of rum.
