To be honest with you, at one time I thought that wavy steps may have been a by product of the finishing lathe, however, I have dismissed that thought and I am still in the hub to die movement, during some period of the process, that makes these lines.

Alan's book is fairly good and highly recommended for the begining collector for it does have the basics.
