Ken,is there any chance it might be bent, ever so slightly? That could account for the un-even wear. would PCGS encapsulate if it were? I m not familiar with the TPG services. Once burned, one tends to stay away from the fire! The date is one that I will always seek, as long as it can be recognized as IHC, and has the date visible. I have some that you have to slant the coin to see if there even IS a date, but it is an IHC, so it "fits", somewhere! LOL

Ken,
I think your AG3 is closer to the mark than the G6 I posted.
Course, it would've been nice if you got the higher grade.

Hi Dick,Kurt,The coin is not bent from what I could tell from the slab, and probably would have gotten a "damaged" note on the slab if it were.I was hoping to get at least g4 as the reverse is strong along with the date. That's the way it goes I guess.Just a small time collector and we don't get the benefit of the doupt.Maybe if I sent it in with a dealer it may have gone a little higher especially with the coin you posted Kurt.I do think my coin is a bit stronger than the g6 posted.Ahhhhh life goes on.God Bless.

I've heard of preferential grading discussed before, but I seriously hope it doesn't happen--because the net effect are misgraded coins. After all, aren't TPGs supposed to be "expert graders"--in contrast to my guesses on grade?

Ken, I don't worry about the grade of the coin. I look at it this way: If i am lucky enough to have that date in my collection, to make it complete, then I am happy. I will never have a "Registry set', or MS collection. I am a simple man, with fixed income. If I am fortunate enough to have every date, then I have done well. I don't have the '09-S VDB, in any grade. It is out of my reach. I don't expect to have the 1877 IHC, or the '09-S. Same reason, but, I have all the rest. I keep a close eye on my budget, and know how much will be available each month for "toys". It was reduced by the new owners of the Senior Park, who hit us with a $126.00 per month rent increase. The COLA was not given, so that small amount each year did not come. Maybe in 2011. The nice thing is that my Canadian collection is complete, (1920-date) It is a liikttle of everything from BU, to beat-up, ugly, but recognizeable coins. My "tribe is like the rest, a few still to be accounted for. None are MS, but all but two are 'present, and accounted for. They are ilke me, Old, worn, and not the best condition, but they are all welcome.
