Dick,
Thanks for the welcome to the retired community. You are right! The rocking chair isn't my style. I've got way too much work to do with the hobby to slow down any time soon. As I see it, I'm just getting started!
John

i have 3 "98 wide AM's i found in change and 2 of them are from the same die for sure but i think the third is from a different die OR possibly the third one is an EDS coin as opposed to the other two which are identical. I will post some pics in the next few days when i get my camera back...

Hello Aaron,
Congratulations on the 1998 1c WIDE AM finds. To update my research, I have 16 different dies listed for 1998, 4 different dies listed for 1999, and 16 different dies listed for 2000. Two of the 1998 WIDE AM dies were also used in 1999.
If you would like to submit your finds to me to see if they match the dies listed in my files, I would be more than happy to have a look at them for you.
Take care.
John

I recently found a 1998 and a 2000 wide AM,
What area of the coin needs to be shown other than the date and the AM.
Or should I post the full Obv and Rev.

I found 4 (four!) Wide AM cents today! Amazing. They all came out of one $25 box of fed wrapped circulated cents, which I got this week from my bank. The last one I had found before finding these was in March of this year. But it's always been hit or miss with me. These were 3-2000 Wide AM's and 1-1998 Wide AM. Three were in "circulated" brown condition and one 2000 coin looked to be very bright red and uncirculated. All of the 2000's had different markers. Two of them were not fully struck around Lincoln's ear but were clearly either different stages of the same variety or else different varieties altogether of the 2000 Wide AM. The chances of someone finding 4 Wide AM's in one day is..................I better go buy a LOTTERY Ticket right away before my luck changes back to normal!

Ken it is a normal close AM. One way to see the difference is the the normal close AM spell AMERICA. The close AM looks like it spells AM ERICA. The wide A M looks like AMERICA with that space between the A & M. Check pre 1992 Cents for example of the wide A M and the post 1993 Cents on business strikes for the close AM. (Space between letters intended.)

Coop, that would be my opinion, too. I always look to be sure the "normal distance" between the "M", and "E" is the same. If that be wrong, then I have tossed a lot of "AM ERICA"S out!

Well, I finally accumulated a respectable hoard of this gem, and I sent three off today for attribution through a local dealer. I also submitted what I believe is a US Mint Set 2000 P DDO.
I received the 00 P DDO in a group of 50 from a dealer as a bulk lot, and the 10 2000 Wide AM DDR were accumulated through both individual and bulk purchases. I will be submitting a SPARKLING Die Marker example 2000 Wide AM (not a doubled reverse, sadly) to Mr Daughtry, as well as an example of the 2000 WIDE AM Doubled Die reverse.
The 2000 P is a one-off, so I have to wait for the dealer on it.
I believe that there IS GOING TO BE A 1999 WIDE AM DDR, based on the data in this forum, so, folks, flip that graded 1999 WIDE AM over and look for a sliver of metal pointing up the WDDR 9, and I think the 2000, 1999, and 1998, if examples of 98 and 99 are also found, will be the modern rares which supplant all other Lincolns in scarcity and value...which is why I have kept my flap from yapping until now.
Happy searching!

John,
Are you still interested in attributing the 92 CAMs. I found the one that is in the 7 Sept issue of Coin World. It is currently at PCGS being evaluated and graded. I would be willing to send it to you when I get it back. I just don't know how well it can be photographed through the holder.
