I found a proof set today that has a DDO penny in it. This has got to be the best trip I ever made to the coin shop because of this and some other sets that I walked out of there with. But I don't know exactly which type DDO it is. Can anyone help me ID this penny from these photos? Is it worth more if I keep it in the set? Chuck, I could send the set in to you for attribution if it can't be ID'ed from the photos.
EDIT'D (It appears that the penny is an FS 1¢ -025, but I'm not certain of it. There is another DD in this set, the nickel is clearly an FS 5¢ -036 (DDR). Can you believe it!)

Other finds include a 1965 SMS set with a DCam Kennedy(going in my Dansco folder) and a 1971 DCam HiQual Kennedy in a proof set. ...and finally two 1964 Proof sets with non-cam Accented Hair Kennedy's.

Murph,
I would agree that this coin is FS # 1c-025. Your pictures seem to show one of the markers (a die crack in the U of TRUST) You can check the following link to the site to see if other markers match. We have it listed as 1960P-1DO-003P.

Very nice finds Murph...congratulations!

Thanks Bob. I checked mine with the markers from the link for the 1960P-1DO-003P. They match exactly. It has the crack in the U and on the left of the R just as in the photos. On the reverse is a straight, but broken line in the 2nd bay from the right. That's it.
I also found, from the Coneca site, that the nickel is a FS-5¢ - 036 and looking at the Franklin half I find that it has some doubling, but I haven't put it to a variety yet, nor have I discounted it as machine doubling. This is one crazy set.

Wow, very nice find. I have kept an eye out for the 1960 proof doubled die obverses, but I have not encountered any yet.

Congrats on a great find!

Definitely VERY nice. That coin is worth in excess of $150 easy. You're really lucky today!

Thanks guys. Got an update...I took the 1960 DDO cent and the 1965 SMS Kennedy Half to a friend of mine who has taken the PCGS grading course and I have a lot of faith in his opinion, so I asked him what he thought the cent might grade and he looked at it for a while and said PR64 RED, maybe 65 (we're talkin PCGS grades always). It's bright, shiny and has good eye appeal for a non-cameo. That grade should put it in the $200-250 ballpark.
Concerning the Kennedy, I only asked if he thought it was a Deep Cameo and he said in all probability, yes...YES! But alas it's got some marks on it and not very good eye appeal. It's not going to grade very high, but I was on the lookout for a DCam SMS and I may have found one. Even at MS63 or 64 it's worth more than the cent.
Oh yeah, there was a nickel in the 1960 Proof set that was also a Doubled Die. It is a FS# 5¢-036 and I put it up for auction. I have a couple watchers and if it sells, it will have paid for both the Proof set and the SMS! That deal kinda is gonna make up for the deal earlier in the year where I bought a Franklin half there at the same shop for $130 and auctioned it for $70, my worst loss on a coin btw.

Murphy: I would check out the area for more of them as maybe the same collector had purchased more of them at the same time. GREAT FIND...........
