As my morning habitis dictate, one of the first thinks that I do is read the local newspaper, "The Dayton Beach News Journal".

One of the numerous adds (they seem to increase ten fold during this season) forecasts, in bold print, "U.S. Government to Abolish the Lincoln Penny . . . FOREVER"

I won't go through the whole add, but this one section got me.

"The First Federal Mint is announcing the limited release to the public bags of old vintage "Wheat Back" Lincol Cent (1909-1959)"

Okay, a 1959 "Wheat Back" can be a pretty pricey coin in just about any grade. Back to the add

"These solid bronze coins have not been minted for over 45 years. Most have long disappeared, but now you can acquire them not by rarity of individual coins but by weight - just $19.95 for a full half-pound bag of original vintage "Wheaties" ".

Some quick math; at the most, 75 pennies to a half a pound (more like 72) $19.95 = $0.26 per "Wheaty", but wait, we did not tack on the shipping and handling which will more than likely bring the price of one coin up to $0.30 a piece.

And if you buy 3 lbs. for $99.00 + S&H, you will get absoulely free a 1880's Indian Head cent.

How many people are going to fall for this come on, only to discover that they have 75 wheat pennies that have been searched ever which way for any possible key date or error. Question

You all have a good one

Regards,
BJ Neff

Until the trades stop running ads like those (and ALL of them do) nothing can or will happen.
