Couldn't find much information for the 71D but did find this cent with notching in the date on the 71. Maybe kind of minor but it appears for this date and mint not much to find.
Steven
Well the next coin I picked up has nearly the same notching and a small knob on top of the first 1 in the date. ??? Could this be an MDO issue??
I am not aware of Master Die doubling for 1971. Your coins however do exhibit notching and 'a knob' that would indicate a doubled die. I would expect the digits to be a bit thicker with notching like that. I would leave this for Chuck's appraisal before we say yeah or nay. _________________ Bob Piazza

Likely a doubled die...and likely listable if the coin comes out looking like the photos. I don't know of any master die doubling for 1971 either. _________________ C. D. Daughtrey
