(do paper dollars count? Question Laughing )

I got two bills in change today with "Where's George?" stamped on them. I read about that a year or so ago. People mark the bills and other people report when and where they find them in circulation by accessing the "Where's George" website.

Pretty cool idea.

Ostensibly they're trying to gage "normal" cirulation patterns, along with having fun.

Actually Robert, that program has been going on for a few years now. It is great fun being able to track down a dollar that may have made it's way aound the USA.
Being that the average life span of a one dollar Federal Reverve Note (FRN) is 17 months, it also enables you to see how much longer a bill has survived in circulation.
The links the site provides also has a lot of great trivia and useful information for those interested in FRNs, and also has expanded to other countries. Great stuff!

I am pretty sure I have never run into a bill with "Where's George" on it, but I will keep my eye out now. Thanks for the info!

Talk about 'what are the chances' senarios. No sooner do we start talking about this, when I actually get one in change from the local Winn Dixie supermarket. The cashier wanted to give me a 'better' bill because this one was so messed up, but I took it and will be updating the site today. Keep looking folks. With just the sheer numbers of bills already entered, there is always a chance you will get one.

Okay, hooked...

I registered and entered $17 in notes today (three $5 and two $1). Amazing how much time some people have on their hands. I went into the top users section, and found that one user has entered over 230,000 notes since 1999. Considering that it's likely that these aren't all $1 notes, I would have to guestimate that's at least $500,000 worth...a retail store? Geesh, I could see it now. Take the money, stamp "wheresgeorge.com" on it, enter it into the computer, THEN stick it in the register. LOL!

I personally will probably never make it into the hall of wheresgeorge fame, but it would be cool just to see if any notes I enter get a hit. Thanks for the link! (I think)
