Anyone catch Murphy's ad on ebay for his 20 rolls of 2006 lincolns? Nicely Done Murphy!! I know more than a few of you are buying and selling on ebay. I'm buying and selling as mikebfsi. It's nice to know who your buying from or selling to as well as bidding against.

Thanks Mike. It is always good to know who you are dealing with, either by reputation or experience. And hopefully those of you who have bought from me are satisfied.
I've been selling rolls on eBay for a couple years, but only recently I've been doing something different and I think if I keep it up it has the potential to improve the Variety market on eBay.
I come up with 10-boxes of Philly Mint pennies and take two rolls from each box and package those 20-rolls for sale. Before I do that though, I sample each box so I have an idea what's in the rolls. In my auction ad I say exactly what I find so the buyers know what I have and if they want it they buy it. Who wouldn't want 2-rolls from 10 different boxes. That really increases their odds of getting some good Variety or High Grade cents! I've found that about 1 in 5 boxes contain good stuff, either high grade coins, DDO's or DDr's. In my auction right now are 2 rolls of those "detached ear" cents, but all they are is weakly struck cents that have mirror-like pools all around Lincoln's ear and beard where the die had no contact with the planchet. They call it a doubled die but it's not. I'm not about to bring it out that my rolls contain them because I don't advertise that stuff. I don't consider them to be worth collecting. In reality though, some of the DDO's & DDR's are more common than those "Detached Ear" weak strikes.
But I'm all for helping the variety trade. If I can sell 20 rolls to a guy who will put some wavysteps up on eBay that he found in my rolls, then I have helped expose people to that particular variety and that type of variety in general.
I did a poll on the NGC Forum and half the people Polled didn't know anything, "nada" about wavysteps. And I'm sure even more have no idea what Class 9 doubling is!
So by writing informative ads for my auctions and putting up rolls with as many different Varieties in them as I can and keeping a steady supply of them over time, that's how I think it could help us all.
EDIT: BTW, right now I am able to get 2 completely new boxes each week, sometimes 3. Right now all ten of my boxes are different except possibly two might be the same, I dunno but I plan to get better at this. There's no reason why I can't add a new variety to "the mix" every 2 or 3 weeks. My hope is to get a following of people who become repeat buyers looking for varieties to collect and sell their surplus on eBay or even give them away to the grandkids and educate them.

I buy and sometimes sell under the same name I use on here:
pennyhound
I must differ from buying opened box on E-Bay because of my, experience with those butheads, you know who I'm referring to, that go though the box/s and re-package them then try and sell for same price as un-opened box/s.
But then I must say also ... it's good to know whom your selling to and buying from ... for this same reason. I haven't seen the ad yet, but I'm sure you have so stated what this within. Unlike the unscrupulous ones out there.
You do bring to the table another way of selling though and I'm glad we have good people out there that take the time do explain it.
Must remember ... that there are all kinda people out there and for the majority (sad to say) are just sticks in the mud, that's why it's so good to meet and deal with the better side of people on E-Bay.
I'll commit, to buying a box (unopened) or two ... every week or so ... if given a chance ... put in the buy/sell/trade area of the forum and I'll see you there.

Pennyhound, I don't blame you for wanting unopened boxes. You can be sure that nobody's tampered with sealed boxes from the Fed. But I think what you are use to dealing with are the STRING boxes that have the holes in the top or bottom so you can see if they are new or used. My cents come from AT Systems and they don't have holes in their boxes. There's no way to tell if they are new or used unless the 2 flaps are torn open. There's not even a date or any marking on the box other than the denomination and value $25 on the side. So I doubt that I can be of any use to you if you want unopened boxes. And then I really only want to sell new or used rolls in lots of 10 or 20 that I can offer the customer some insight as to what they will find within the new rolls. All my rolls are completely unsearched. The boxes are sampled and the sample rolls are sold back to the bank. I note what each box contains from the samples, but what's in the customers actual rolls is anybody's guess. I don't open those.
You'd be surprised at who I've sold to recently and at what they've found. Five or Six of the most experienced variety hunters in the United States have bought new rolls from me. I think one great attraction for them is in knowing they're going to find something! I have bought more than one new box of cents and gone through each individual roll and not found a single variety or ms68 cent. I will never do that again because I don't have to. And neither do you. If you buy from me, you know you're going to find some interesting coins, probably several major varieties and you'll have a much better than average chance at finding an ms68 or higher grade cent by PCGS standards! Sometimes you can look at the ends of the rolls and see varieties.
I thank you for your kind words Pennyhound. You expressed it so well that I do bring something new to the table in what I have to offer. Hopefully it will catch on and other people will do the same thing, buyers will sell their coins on eBay and stimulate more interest in Class 9 die varieties.
