I just recievied 3000 1956D Lincoln cents in the mail. They are all circulated coins. My first thought is how could this have happened? I can understand someone buying a bag of Mint coins back in 1956 but how would you obtain a bag of solid date circulated Lincolns. To answer my own question I would suggest that the bag was purchased new by a penny arcade. the cents would have been sold to the customers in order to play the games. this would create a recycle of cents for several years for the arcade until someone noticed there might be value in them, gathered them up and sold them. The amazing thing is that there had to be mixed in other dates brought in by customers and when collected were seperated by date and mint mark. It sounds strange but if true there are other bags of solid date circulated wheat cents out there somewhere.I sure hope it wasnot dine by a variety collector. Time will tell . I am looking.~lucky2
