I can think of a couple ways they could do that. One would be shaving the mintmark off another coin and glueing to the faked coin. Another way is something I saw on a coin once, they punched out a portion on the coin, rotated it and placed the cut portion back into the coin probably with glue. It looked wierd. The punched out area was about the size of a paper punch, but it had to be done in a machine shop. The pattern turned really makes you take a second look. Could be added that way, but it is more obvious. Oh a third just came to me. Shaping the field by moving material from that area to make a crude mintmark. It would probably fool a blind person, but maybe not as some can read brail. I know they remove parts of date marks to convert a 1944-D into a 1914-D and also a copper 1948 Cent filed down to appear as a 1943 copper Cent. So adding and subtracting from a design still makes it a fake. Just need to know what to look for when they are being sold as real..... Always best to know what you are buying before the purchase. It kind of like swimming in Floridia. Check for aligators before getting in rather than the opposite. Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink

Sad but so true, I personally don't like the slabbed coins but in those cases I wouldn't have a choice. Crying or Very sad
