Well Mary...You told us not to tell you it was mechanical doubling, but...I can not tell a lie. Unfortunately, you have a coin that exhibits it more so than most I have seen.
A good tell tale sign on coins dated prior to 1990, is when both the date and mintmark are doubled. The doubling is flat or 'shelf-like', a good diagnostic for determining which is which.
If you take a look on the site and do a search on 1968, you will find the type of doubling you need to be looking for for this date. You have to look for it carefully, and a good pick-up point in on TRUST. Sorry....

Oh gee, thanks Bob for being so <cough><cough> honest. It just looked like it was hit multiple times. And yes, looking at the "S" that also looks like it was hit more than twice if I look at it from the bottom up. The 6 and the 8 seem to be more pronounced while all of the "outer devices" seem to have some sort of doubling to them.
Ah well, I guess I'll never get this doubling thing down. I can sure find the mechanical ones, but don't seem to be able to figure out the hub doubles. Maybe somebody wants to send one this way so I can study it. Hmmm.. a '69S would be nice. And while you're at it, how about a '55? Of course you'd have to tell me exactly what's doubled and where to find it.
Now Bob, I HAVE looked at your sight before I sent this along. I always do. I just didn't find anything quite like it, so I thought I'd ask. Besides, I have nothing better to be doing. Hey, I have a great idea!!! When I finally put all of these into date order, I'll send them to YOU to take a look at. Aww, come on now. There's only about $500. worth. That wouldn't be too hard, would it? After all, I've been putting these in boxes and banks since 1980. There could be something good in there. I (obviously) wouldn't know. But I'm trying.
Oh well, just wanted to make you smile. It helps to make one feel good.

Now Mary....you know as well as everyone else that if you don't look, you can't find anything This is lots of fun though...isn't it? I have come to think that when you least expect it....BAM!!! There is that elusive doubled die that you thought you would never find. If you have 500 bucks worth of coins that you've put away since 1980, I would say the chances are pretty good that there is a variety or two in there.
Unfortunately, strike/mechanical doubling is much more prevalent than hub doubled dies and RPMs.
I would be more than happy to send you some hub doubled dies so you can have a better idea of what to look for...but the 1969S one is out of the question. (only cause I don't have one either) I have many many duplicates, and many doubled dies on circulated cents that I give away occasionally to help folks get started and to know what to look for. If you are interested, send me an email...OK??
Now...one more thing...I thought about your offer about sending me all of your coins to look at, and although I spent almost 4 seconds thinking about it, I have to decline your offer
By the way...you might need to see a doctor about getting that cough taken care of

Bob,
I'm finally getting around to responding to your offer. I'm in San Antonio at the moment visiting with my grandkids. Ok, and my daughter and her husband too, I guess. My goodness, is it ever hot here. I'm thankful my parents left me with that Italian skin or I'd be burnt to a crisp by now.
Anyway, Bob, I'll take you up on that offer to send me a coin or two to look at. However, it's got to be a loan. After all, there will be others behind me that will need to take a look at them too.
I'm sending you an email and, when I return home next week, I;ll let you know when I receive them. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. You're quite the guy.
Mary
