Indian Head Cent Grading Project

I am thinking about doing an exhibit that displays every grade of a particular year from Fair to MSxx. (Perhaps Proof as well -- I'd probably have to borrow that one).

I was considering using 1907 cents and photographing each coin. The photo would be modified to highlight the areas that contributed to the particular grade. At first I would attempt to stick strictly to the ANA standards.

Anyone have ideas, suggestions, experience with this type of project?

Hi Art,
That could be quite an ambitious project, but one that I think would be very well received. Flying Eagle cents are beautiful coins, and I am sure most people have never seen one in MS or Proof condition. I agree to using the ANA standards as well. Where would you display these pictures? Do you have all the euipment available to take great pictures? I have been working on taking better pictures with the set-up I have, and proof coins are much more difficult to photograph. Since I started using a fiber optic light supply and light ring, they are much better. The biggest problem I see is being able to reduce the glare on the coin, but still be able to show the fine detail. The more pixels, the sharper the image. On the PCGS boards (I haven't seen him post here) is a poster who goes by the nickname of "Shylock." (His real name is Paul.) You really should see his pictures of IHs. Hello Art, and welcome aboard.

I can't offer much in the area of Indian Head cents but I would like to let you know that this site is definately for the IHC collector as well, although right now doesn't show it much. I really want to get more IHC information out there for the collectors - if you have suggestions on what an IHC collector would like to see, please suggest it.

I also found Indianheads.org a while back. The photos of IH are great and his photos of Lincolns is also some of the best.
