Spring cleaning in Autumn...

I have begun to work on a full Spring cleaning of the mass bulk of coins I have here. I am working through them trying to get as many as possible into inventory where applicable.

I am finding that I have a number of duplicates on some of them and plan to begin a series of giveaways in the buy, sell, trade (BST) area of the forum. For those who generally don't scroll down that far, you might want to take a look because I have already posted the first one.

Chuck, it must be the full moon. I spent all day Saturday and Sunday trying to clean up the mess I have from two hobbies - penny collecting and genealogy. At Coop's recommendation I started an inventory last spring. I have a lot more to add but I need to carve out another weekend to have enough time to make progress. The piles can get overwhelming.

I alway make time before I get to the next roll or batch of coins to list, sort, store my latest finds. Lets say you bought a roll of any date - any mint. In the roll you will find some of the same anomoly and I seperate them to keep them together. If I get 10-100 from the same batch, I again sort them according to markers and keep them together. If they are listed on the site, I number them right away. If they are unlisted RPMs, I put them into tubes with the sorted markers together. I usually put the largest quanity in the tube first and so on till I get to the single ones. That way they are kept together. When you have rolls of assorted ones it makes it harder later to find the same markered ones, so I sort them as I go. Doubled Dies I asign a number and list numerically the ones that have the same markers and then list what is the anomoly, so later when I find another one like one I had found before, I can compare it and see if it is a match or a new number. Keep things arranged and it will go better in the long run. I have one doubled die that I have 19 extras of, I've put in 2 X 2's and put in my collection. I do have one DD that I have over 40 of, so I leave that one in a tube and card as I need them. (not that I don't think they are 21) Just taking it as it comes and sorting as you go keeps the collection organized and you know where it is. (If you put that on the inventory) I refrain opening new stuff till the last batch is all put away. I guess I control my variety fever better that way.

Coop, You made me tired just trying to think what all I am going to do, once I can get close to my coins! My other hobby, (computers) is giving me fits, right now. I want to set up one computer to hold all the programs, equipment apps, and the inventory, as well. I am on the verge of doing a little "adjusting" with an *pound hammer"! There are days like that! Ive been doin spreadsheets with my inventory for two weeks now i hate this part of the hobby when i get it done ill get it to whoever would like it for trades. Btw im all the way 2 1957 ugggg now comes the hard part lol

It may take time, but enjoy it, as your inventory will remind you when you don't have a certain die, or you have extras to share/trade/sell. Look on the programs (I have two. One for RPMs/OM and the other is just for doubled dies.) to see what you have/need when you see an auction or chatting with someone on the forum. It makes it a quick find that way. So take your time with it and enjoy it, don't view it as a task, but a challenge to get it the way you exactly want it to look. I've even been adding die states on mine. But add what you want on them. Feel free to email me a look at yours anytime. I might have some suggestions.
