Heres try 2.
Same taped on loup setup without the flip.
It seemed like slightly moving my hand near my lamp changes the tone to more orange. This is a 1935:

Getting real close Ed. The color is something that can be taken care of with the editing software. Focus seems to be the issue here.

I'm not sure focus is the issue quite as much as Ed might be trying to extend the capability of his camera beyond its means.

Ed...if you are having to stretch your picture to make it large enough to post, that's what's causing the bicubic distortion of your image...in other words, it looks heavily digitized. You might not be able to correct this using the camera you have, but if you have a setting for "larger" images, take the photos using this setting.

What brand and model of camera are you using?

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

I think you hit it.
It's a 1.2M HP camera.
This is the highest setting so I can only make it worse.
One thing I notice is even when it uses the higher setting like this the camera takes a bigger picture. So if I use the low setting I don't see the circle from my loop but with the highest setting it shows the circle so I think it limits the true resolution.

I'm realizing it realy requires some scope with more gain than a loup so I don't need to stretch the area of interest so much.

Thanks for the inputs Wink

The same magnification setup might work pretty well with a 5MP camera....and those have gone down to $200 or thereabouts. The big new gig is to get a 8-10MP camera, and the perfectly adequate 5MP cameras are considered the 'cheapo' cameras now. Dunno what your budget is, but it might be worth considering. I would recommend a Nikon Coolpix 4XXX or 5XXX series. These are older, refurbished or new they will be pretty cheap because they aren't 'current' models.

CD, Ifound that I couild do a little "sizing" in "photo, and fax viewer". I'm not sure if it will be the same in the "finished "product, but I used the 420X320 image size,, and saved it. Later I'll toss one up to photobiucket for effect. BYW, did you get my PM? Dick

CD, I forgot to ask, is it ok to use SS? I used a SS mesh basket, (and forgot to add a couple droplets of dishwashing detergent). My coins came out the same, except with a light film of soda. I didn't have all your instructions, in tne same place. The detergent part, I found today.....
I may have done something I shouldn't have. I posted a new topic, "cooking wheats" Telling everyone who might read it who the source is, and some things to avoid If it is wrong, please let me know, and also delete it.
