I think these are just die breaks but was looking for confirmation. Look below the mint mark and also along the rim beneath Mr. Lincoln

Rollmeupabe, The "D" looks like it was struck over an apparent lamination, from the look of it. Down by the rim, I can't tell enough from the pic's to say.

That rings a bell....

I think it's a couple of die gouges, not lamination or anything else.

The FUNNY part is your picture rang a bell... I know I have seen one of those in a pile of 57-Ds that I have. I laughed when I saw it years ago that it's a D over V lol Laughing

If I can dig it out I'll snap a pic and post it. I'm sure it was exactly the same. I'll go diggin for it now!

I've seen that die before. I put them back in the roll. Not completely sure what it is, but appears to be some sort of tooling marks on the die.

I agree that it is a common die crack/gouge. I have a few of them sitting around here as well. Kinda sticks out at you like the1952 flying D.

Thanks Bob. Now I have a great description for my Ebay auction. "Now you can own one of the very rare 1957 flying D's"

Would probably be considered appropriate based on some of the weird things on Ebay. Probably get you a few hundred...huh??

Rollmeupabe, I had answered your post, until I read it again, and saw where I had "missed the boat" I was thinking of the corroded mintmark, just hanging by a bit of metal. The one Cathy has.
