Hi Everyone, my name is Bob and I am very happy to be a part of this forum. My grandfather left me a boatload of pennies, and though I have sold off a number of the more valuable ones, I still have a good many to go through. One problem that I have is that ever since I purchased this 50-100 power microscope from radio shack, I have been scrutinizing each and every one looking for abnormalities. Why is it that every single coin seems to have the appearance that it has been stamped more than once, or it has a shadow behind it? I'm sure that I have found numerous coins that are errors or varieties. Problem is, I have no idea the difference between a double die and a double strike. I will try and send in photos of my coins in question, and hopefully there are people who can help me out with them. I know one thing. It sure is exciting when you think you have something good. Oh well, goodbye for now. Thank you for the opportunity to be in the forum and I hope to get to know some of you real soon.

As some of our members already mentioned, we are real friendly here and can certainly help you determine what you might have. May I offer one bit of advice though? Please 'don't look for more than is readily apparent'. You'll go crazy With the scope you have, finding the proper lighting is essential to eliminating a lot of shadows that might otherwise confuse you. Read through the forum in your spare time, and there may be a lot of information already available to answer your question. If not, we don't mind saying it again, or directing you to the proper thread. Enjoy!!

Main thing I noticed is the 50-100 power. That's too high, you'll have everything under the sun popping out at you confusing you. 16-20 power is plenty for searching through coins, and such scopes can be purchased from ebay for $75-$100. It may be worth the investment depending on how many pennies your 'boatload' is...and believe me, I've seen boatloads. Picked up one collection that had to be evenly disbursed across the chassis of a utility van or it would have broken the suspension.

Thank you very much for your warm welcome. Unfortunately, my "Boatload" is more like a sportsbag load. I have about two hundred and fifty dollars in face value left. I pretty much sold everything under 1926, but have rolls and rolls from that date on up. I sure wish I would have seen your site earlier, as it probably would have maximized my profits. I am a fairly fast study, but please bear with me, as some of my questions may seem repetetive or obvious. Thank you again for the welcome.

Before Going through a roll of you solid date wheats, check out the search to bring up all the different mint RPMs/DD's so you can see what to watch for when goint through that year. that might help, but also consider you may find something NOT listed yet. So check them closely and save them for another search later on when your eye becomes trained. You will find that you missed things and the more you learn, the more you find you missed.
