Mike: Those are die gouges. Sometime happens when the die is touched by a strong cleaning object or the die falls apart in that area and the mark gets larger and larger. Some die gouges in the fields may flatten out, others are with it the rest of the dies life. But looking at the die state, it appears that it is a VLDS die as the field and the letters are snowdrifting. I would say that soon this die is to be retired.
