Hey guys- I was just looking thru an old jar of Lincoln's and came across an unusual 1953D. There is a raised patch of metal in the odd shape and size of a horizontal D under the 53. There are no 53 D and D varieties that I know of. What am I seeing here?

Is it loose? Looks a bit like a piece of lamination. Looks like everyone is soing '50's tonight.

I also think it's not a D, probably some lamination or like a dropped piece of metal stuck there, maybe the die was damaged.

Look at enough cent's and we find all sorts of hard to explain stuff. Wink

Hey guys--no, it is not loose. I also do not think it is an extra D. What I find odd about it is that it has the look of a die defect in the shape of a horizontal D. I was just curious if anyone has seen another 53D with a similar element. If something might have hit the working die (even possibly the D punch) this should have repeated itself, if not than this would lead me to think it is just a planchet flaw exclusive to this one coin.
Thanks in advance guys.

JROCCO, I went thru several, LTA roll, but nothing even resembling yours. I am in the late '70's, now. A few MM's in the '60's.
