200*P Dime Question

Didn't know what to think at first but maybe a thin planchet causing the lack of detail. What do you think???????????

Steven, you raise the same question as I, when I saw mine. What happened? Mine is even more "worn", or whatever, because yours has the liberty area, pretty well there, but mine is lke the rev of yours. all flat. I didn't weigh mine, so I can't give any info in that respect. It is in a flip, and one day I will check it again. I think it has been "played with", actually. The edges are quite sharp. Maybe someone else has an answer?

That's just extreme wear. Looks like a pocket piece...but a dime?

I thought extreme wear as well but it is only about half the thickness of a normal dime made me think of a thin planchet that may not have been struck well?

I think the un-thinkable may have happened. I went thru all the dimes, and the closest to this coin, is the 1918P, but it obviously is wear. The dime I am thinking of is just like the one above, but I don't rcall the date. There was a write-up in Coin World, some time back, Collectors Clearing house, with photos of the same thing. The un-thinkable I refer to is the possibility that it went to the bank, in a roll!

The coin has been filed or ground down.

Normal wear would involve the lower areas of the design by the time it's that advanced. The wear starts at the top but as it gets worn it allows more impacts to occur on the lower and no longer protected areas.

It looks like a 2000.

Looks like something happened to it after the mint released it. I found a 200_-P Dime. It was the first one I found in 2000 from the Philly mint. It looks a little wierd?


Looks a strike a though grease/MAD/Machine doubled all messed up on one coin. It happens... I also got the prievious year a Cent with the date 199_-D. Same thing struck through grease.

The '02, '03, '94, cents are quite common this way, too..
