Coop, this cent has what looks like a clashed die, but none of the indications are where they should be. Maybe you can tell me. Look under "god", and see a flat, slightly encuse mark that looks like a side hit from somrthing. The mark is longer that the word "god".

I couldn't get you a better photo.
Thanks,
Dick

Hard to tell from the image. If a scratch/crack/chip/break is present, the mark rises above the planchet. Incuse would usually be damage/strike through. But you coin has a concentric appearance like a lathe mark. But if the mark isn't raised, its probably damage. Maybe soemone else has a solution that I've missed.

Coop, I was in the "memorial mode", and didn't think about this being a wheat. That is very likely, the stem of the wheat sprig. The position is close. I asked Steven if he has an overlay of the obv/rev like he has for the memorial. I hope he does. You might have one, who knows Thanks

Dick: I believe it is a die clash. I think that is the first I've seen from the wheat stems. Nice find.

Coop, it is a clash, and because Steven was so nice as to post an overlay for the wheats, it came out perfect. Thank you, both. It is one of Cathy's 55-S's!
2ND thought. I recall having seen coins with "something" in the same area, but, (pre CC), it didn't register that it might be a clash.

Coop, if you need a fast overlay, check Stevens Feb. 20, 2007, 11:11AM, post. BTW, when you check your 55-S's, check above the edge lettering for clash marks. Apparently there is some doubling there. I have two, or three coins with that type of clash, and a few others with the same tyoe clash I posted.
