Do you think the mint mark on this was tampered with? I had it up on eBay and I was looking at some of the other 1913 P's to see what the market was doing. For some reason I went back to look at my coin again and realized I totally missed all those scratches. Only place on the coin is below the tail nothing on the front. I was so excited to find it in a random handfull of junk that I didnt look at it very well. Your opinions please... Should I relist it ... or toss it in the junk but silver drawer? Even in its condition I should be able to get $50-$60 if its not tampered with.

Altered? Very likely, but no way to tell for sure from pictures.

Most of the Barber coins from that era was circulated alot. I would say that was a very common thing as people spent them then as they were a lot of money in those days. Some people made that in a day, so little saving, nor spending to get the daily necessities. I don't see anything altered other than wear. Maybe I'm mssing what your seeing. I love the look of the circulated Barber coins, but the BU examples show the detail that has love disappeared. I didn't care for the design myself, but they were a part of coinage history and common in circulated G & VG grades. Some lower to a AG grade when the rims are missing.

definitely a removed mintmark. The 1913P is more valuable than the others of the date, and the area where the mintmar has scratches all over it. Very telling sign to me.

Well I didnt buy it .. it was one if gramps and I was going to sell it on eBay I had it up but noticed the scratches shortly there after and removed it before the reserve was hit. ... to tthe junk silver drawer it goes. Pretty soon Ill have a silver factory in there.

I am very very glad I saw it BEFORE I actually sold it. I try to be very careful on eBay.
