I would have dismissed this as an abraded die but for the bit of notching south on the "W" and what looks like separation line on it as well. Nothing anywhere else on the coin I can see. What do you think.

I'd look close at LIB! The W looks similar to 1DO-003 but if the rest of the doubling is not there then it might be nothing.

The doubling on the E looks like the 72 master doubling.

I think you gotta quit using the electron microscope to see notching Laughing Laughing Laughing
Actually Steven, please remember that about 50% of all 1972 P, D, and S coins had Master Die Doubling on them (CONECA's old die #005). That may in fact be what you are seeing here. All of the noted 1972 doubled dies have strong doubling that is relatively easy to see. Most get pretty mushy as the die wears, but they are noticeable. I would tend to discount anything this minor for the year as chances are it is the master die doubling.

Thanks Bob,
Sometimes I look so close at the obverse I can almost see the reverse. Laughing

Acually I search using a 20MM lens and the for photos I slide it over the lens of my 6.31mp cheapy traveler camera. That is all I have to use for now and I guess I do see a lot more than I should be concerned with. Don't want to miss anything though. I think it may be better to dismiss than miss. Laughing

That could be one of the lesser dies as listed in the AROLC, but I cannot tell with such a small area.

Isn't that the name of the Klingon Starship on Star Trek????

Don't feel too bad Coop. I have no idea what he is referring to either, but I'll probably feel like an idiot after he tells us.
