I haven't been able to look at coins much lately, but have been trying to keep up on the forum. I'd like to thank Murphy for his post on pick up points because that makes searching quicker and easier. I also appreciate the posts on microscopes because I am hoping to upgrade my scope soon. There is so much knowledge here which really helps a novice like me.
I came across this 1971 S coin with a bar on the left side of the one and did not see anything like it in the variety listings. Would this be a doubled die or just some sort of die damage?

nohea - To be able to see what you want us to see, it would be better if you backed up and did not use so much magnification. I can see the bar that you are talking about, but can not get the feel as to what it is since it is blown up so much.

Looks to me like die damage...but BJ is right, when you photograph something like this, use 30X or less.

I'm sorry. I took that picture through the eyepiece of my microscope. Unfortunately, that is at the lowest power it has. It is an old student microscope that has magnifications from 50X to 750X (hopefully an upgrade is in the near future!). I'll try to take a picture without the scope and post it tonight. Thank you for taking a look and for your replies.
