I have not been on Ebay in a few weeks. Tonite I looked to see if there were any rolls available. Rolls of any kind of wheat penny appear to be at least $4+. Anthing described as "unsearched", "unsearched by me", "bank audit", "GEM" etc. is selling for upwards of $10, $20 or more a roll. It is time to put out the for sale sign folks. This craze can't last forever.

I agree rollmeupabe, the only problem is I haven't searched that many roll's yet.
My suggestion on the rise on price's there is: there are some there advertising the change in 2009 Lincoln Cent. People are buying them up left and right. There are still good deal's there if you have the time to search around. Just my 2 cent's worth.

Gentlemen, I don't know what the future holds for us, (me), and Look at it thisn way. If I were to roll all my wheats, and sell them, all I would have left is a bunch or money! I don't collect silver certs, so that would not be an option, not to mention that they don't show up that often. The rest of the "good, the bad, and the ugly", not to mention the fake, etc, don't draw my interest. SO. What to do? Me, I think I'll sit on mine, and see what 2009 has to offer. Good luck in what you choose to do.

Good Observation Dick,
I agree whole-heartaly. I don't collect anything other than Lincoln Cents. I'm personally going to sit what I have (as Steven suggested) for future reference and learning about Lincoln Cent's.
I still have until November or December of 2008 to search thru what I have.

Well at least it is "that time of year" for yard sales. You can come across a jar of wheaties from time to time. Or a box of "old coins". I JUST MIST a great deal yesterday! A Folgers can full of old coins. The lady told me she sold the can for $20, and she knows she had an 1899 dollar (Morgan) in there. Well that ONE COIN would have paid for the can, if it was O or S. If it was P (no MM), then they hit pay-dirt!
BTW, my name is Adam, and I'm the new guy on the block.

Thank You Dick,
I have been lurking for some time as a guest,
taking advantage of the variety lists,
and snooping through the posts,
seeking knowledge
I'm glad to finally be a member,
and don't worry,
I'm not afraid to ask questions
With the weather we're having,
I decided to go to the bank this morning,
and bought $500 in change.
BOY DO THEY HATE ME NOW! LOL
It took two large bags and three ladies to fill them.
They didn't have the 2007 cents,
so I only bought 40 rolls of cents.
They DID however have the 2007 dimes and nickels.
I'm going to have a BLAST looking through them!!!!

Price insanity? You have to be more specific.
Are you referring to houses, the stock market, gold, platinum, gasoline, insurance (homeowners, car and medical/dental), drywall, new cars, doctor bills, or higher education?
Did I leave anything out?

I agree, the $4 is too much and most don't offer much discount for shipping multiples so if one roll is $4 plus more for shipping it's way too high. Almost every add is some scam saying "never searched bank roll of wheats" but lot's of places can seal rolls or people buy the crimping tools so I'm sure most or all are searched. The only chance for finds might be some nice variety if they missed it because they only searched for the stuff in the red book
You can buy the "OBW" roll crimping tools for under $35:

Its interesting that someone started this post today because I had been think the exact same thing. I had been on the hunt recently for some wheats. When I was more active I bought a ton of rolls off ebay but that was 3-4 years ago and the prices were lower, especially for bulk lots of 20 rolls or more. Once in a while I would by a bag of 5000 for around $115.00 from dealers I trusted and had done buisiness with. But those days are over. Prices are high and it seems like I everyone is looking for that $1000 error coin so I assume everything gets searched before I get to it. I just negotiated $2.00 a roll for 40 rolls of wheats from a guy in nashville. Took them home and opened 3 rolls. All garbage. Oh well. What can you do. I'll stick with simple bank rolls for a while and keep looking for the modern varieties. Like I said, I had to start all over so I have a lot of catching up to do. Hey, maybe I can sell the rest of those rolls on ebay for$4.00 each. Unsearched by me! Nah.

Rock, now you know why I stopped at 15,000! They were all the same thing, just different "come-ons"! In one case it was three different name changes, but same seller. Wheats, nope! Not on ebay. Now If I should find some old lady that has been tossing her change into a bucket, then I'll give it some thought, (if she lets me pull a fistfull, to check). Not worried about silver, just hoping to finsd a scattering of wheats. Then we talk! Not holding my breath until iIfind that "l'il old lady"!

Dick,
I do beleive I sent ya a roll of 41 S wheatie's. I bought them off ebay. I bought 20 roll's for around 60.00. The reason I bought them was the way the date was put on them. It was in pencil and the wrapped date was on them also. Before I bought them I did research with the guy asking him about both dates on the roll's. I zoomed in on the roll's. As you know I have found a few error coin's in these roll's. I will only buy in bulk and if the Seller has multiple item's in bulk for sale. I know as in my experience in searching these roll's, It's hard to look for 15 hrs. a day. There are bargins out there you just have to research if you have the time. I'm not saying all wheat's on ebay are good just a few that don't know what they have.
Welcome Adam.
David

The best pruchase I ever made on ebay was in 2002. I won an auction ofr 60 rolls of wheats from an estate sale. My son and I opened them over the course of a couple of days and quickly knew they were truly unsearched. We found Flying eagles, Indians in fine condition and lots of wheats 1909 and up including a lot with mint marks in fine conditon and better. I think I won it for around $100.00. It was a great find.
