Who was it that was asking about the MM placement, on the coins? If there has been, or why there hasn't been a study. There is NO 1983D listings on the site, and I noted that the MM on several '83D cents was noticeably in different places. Further checking revealed that there are at least eight, (Cool, different locations. Some indicate a slight rotation CCW, others are high, others yet, are very high, and /or very high to the NW, etc Comments, anyone?
Dick.

The site only lists varieties. Being in any location is not a factor. Separation of hubbing and RPMs/oMMs are the only listing for the the site. Each year there are thousands of die made and most coins go back into change as usual coins. Some may save BU coins and high graded coins, but most of the coinage goes back. Unnoticed as to mintmark location as they don't have a variety, not a hight grade coin or s special year. Each collector usually determines what he wish to collect. But of the pre 1990 coins, the mintmark location is not determined. It is not unusal to find 8 different dies used to make a roll of coins. The collector decides what to collect or to send back into circulation. But I save only certain ones that catch my eye. About 99% of the coins that go through my hands go back into circulation.

Hi Coop, I thought that might be the xcase, but without asking, it was conjecture alone. You say that you return a lorge part of the coins you check into circulation. I think that will be my policy, as well. I'm getting more "boxes" than rolls! Just kidding. I am getting a lot of down-right culls, that will have to go back to the bank, and I don't want to have to fight then, to get them to accept them! There are several rolls, that are barely distinguishable as us coins! I have been saving them, because I didn't think I had gotten everything, but, then if I don't, there are more boxes for each cent I return. Beside that, there are others who might be looking, too.

Only keep the best. If you cash in 99% of each box you still save 25 per box and over years of searching you'd have boxes of them so I do a second pass and get rid of most of the 1% that I originaly saved. The only exception is varieties which I'll keep in any grade. Give them a look before you cash them in but even if you miss a few minor things you make up for it by looking through more and finding more major varieties. Save a roll of each year and mint and as you get better ones get rid of the worst, in the end you have rolls of nice ones.

If you saved common wheats in circ grades since before 1958 it was a bad deal, they only went up to 3 cents (sell price) over 50 years! In the bank they increased more from interest. If someone saved common or even scarcer high grade wheats they went up in price a lot.

ED, I knew there had to be a method to my madness, but, didn't know where to look for it! I have thousands of wheats, and have only gone thru a few of them, because I didn't have a 'scope, so it was with a 10-X loupe. As you can see there is much to be resolved. I'll go thru them again, and figure what to do with them. As far as the Memorials, they won't be too much trouble to check, because they are newer. With the scope, and the site, I'll be busy for some time to come, but there will be less boxes to contend with. Or maybe I should put it this way: the ones I keep will be, in fact keepers, other than "leftovers". Thanks for your info, and input.
