Just wanted to remind everyone that the summer FUN show is schedualed for the 14-16 of July, at the convention center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Although not as big as the winter show, there will still be over 350 tables set up. Jeanie, my wife, and I will be there all three days hosting the CONECA table, so if you are in the neighborhood, stop on by, will be happy to see you.

I hope you are mistaken with these dates. My info says July 12 through 14 and I'm planning on arriving the 12th.

Hi Garry - Without releasing any of the details that I have in an article in ERRORSCOPE, yes there were.
Ran across more than the usual amount of supposed high priced altered coins, but most of it was helping people identify just what they had.
One of the more unsual viewings was a person, whose early (late 1700 to early 1800) U.S. coins were in NON-MYLAR flips. Even though most of the coins did have some issues (cleaned, verdi gris, porous surfaces), I did convince him that they should be better protected (non-plastisized flips), which he did go over and buy. Now whether that person will put them in those flips is another question, LOL.
Unfortunately there was a theft, however, the person was caught.
All in all, it was a great show and I got to look at some interesting coins, which of course helped me to expand my knowledge base. Looking forward to doing more of the same type thing.

Never heard of mylar flips.
Most staple-type 2x2's these days are made with mylar.

I think the mylar flips are the good ones.
The bad ones are the non mylar with pvc that feel softer and they tend to stick to themself and they smell like a pool raft and they do not crack. (the pvc goo keeps them flexable)
Only problem with non pvc mylar ones are that they crack easier since they are brittle.
The good ones do look about the same as the bad ones (2 pockets that fold) but when you have both together you can tell which is which.

Thanks smed for pointing it out. It should have been non-mylar flips (which are bad, the mylar are good). I have edited the post to reflect that.

So the non-PVC (hard/brittle) flips are made of mylar? Didn't know that... I guess I really never thought about what they were made of.
