Bob, quite a while ago, I mentioned havinng a "doubling" at the base of the steps, except it was in the center of the steps. I was never able to relocate it, but I did find this one today:

I have "worked it over a bit", so it will fit!
Got any idea what happened?

Based on your picture, it kind of looks like the doubling associated with a worn die Dick. If you follow the lower line all across the base, it is relatively straight except where the doubling occurs, where it is somewhat concave. My guess would be die deterioration doubling.
