I thought this was a mechanical double, but a friend stated it was more likely doubling from die wear. Anyhow, Maryland & E Pluribus Unum is a mess on this State Quater.! doubling shows on the obverse as well, but with my photo set up.?? Would this coin command any premium?
Thanks CP.

If it were a doubled die it would command a premium. But if it is just die wear or machine doubling, I would say no. If you had one you might save it for educational purposes, or till you were sure what it was. I can't tell from the Photo what it is, but the letters seem larger from the images.

Out of a single circulated roll, I found three of these..(all 2000 date) South Carolina, Massachusets & of course the Maryland..
I believe it would be worth keeping one or 2 of them.! They are interesting even if not valuable.. I wonder if someday the mechanical doubles will develop a following?? I have seen a few sell pritty well on e-bay, of course, the bidders knowledge.??
Thanks,CP

Anything sells on ebay. Real, fake, fraudulent, damaged, burned, acid dipped, vise squeezed, anything a bottom feeder can think of. The real ones seem to go the cheapest in comparision to the fraudulient ones for for hight dollar. It seems the bigger the lie/decite the bigger the profit. And ebay will do hardly anything about it. You try to tell the others that it is a fake and you get censured/band/rebuked and one seller rejects me on even bidding on an item. Know what your buying or don't buy it. Cause after the gavel goes down, your probably stuck with it. Best to look harder before you leap. IMOHO

It's hard to explain but true that the garbage often sells, sometimes they ignore real coins and bid up the garbage.
Some explanations are that they set up the unsure people by starting an item with fake bids so unsure bidders see someone bidding and follow like lemmings. Once a victim is hooked they shill up the bid.
Another trick is they list strike doubles that look similar to doubled dies of 69-s ddo, 83 ddr or 84 ddo. The victims look at the red book and see a doubled die price and don't understand the differance and bid for it.
There won't ever be a real market for these strike doubles or post mint altered coins, they're dirt common and eventualy the people try getting them graded and still feel upset the graders won't call it anything special but there are many victims with red books looking for bargains.
They could sell fools gold as gold or cut glass as diamond to children and it's the same scam, looks like doesn't mean it's like in value.

Sad but true.! The shilling is really getting out of hand on e-bay... I use to buy (& sell) stamps on e-bay when I first started collecting.. The more I learned about stamps, the fewer stamps I bought..
I suppose numismatics is not much different.? The more you know, "The Less To Buy"..
Thanks alot,CP

I usually sit on the item I'm interested in, and wait until there is only a very little time left, and if the bid(s) are not above what I am willing to pay, then I bid, otherwise, I pass.
Coop in this respect, the roll of wheats, with the VDB on it IS a 1909, and the rest of the roll ismostly "P". One "S", a couple "D"'s,mand a couple of the dates I was missing. All in all, I don't think I got hurt too badly, figuring about a buck a coin, across the board. Some of them are pretty nice coins. My "other wheats" are generally worse condition.

What other wheats do you need. I've got a lot of BU coins from 1949 forward. A few back in BU. Let me know what you need. Email me.

Coop, I just looked in one of the albums, and it only needs 31 to fill. Of course one is the '09-S VDB, the '22-D'no "D", '14d I have the three '31 mints.
I would have to do a search. But forewarned, is for-armeded! All of mine will run "run-of-the-mill. G-4 maybe, to BU. Mist are just fillers. I din't have a "serious album with AU, or NS, or EF-40. Nope these are just what came down the like. I will send you an email, tho, to let you know whether to check your "junk box", or not.
