The 1856 flying eagles were similar.
I think they only gave them to government people as samples of the new "small cents" they were planning for 1857.
Seems these people often kept the coins!

Which goes to show you that the "politicians" aren't the only ones who say one thing, and conveniently forget it, and/or do just the opposite!

Probably a mint worker thought it would be neat to see and made one. There was a mint worker fired a few years ago hoping to find some of his deliberate mistakes on the outside. The 1.25 coin one of his best. He had everyone looking for them at the time. (Sac/Washington) There were less than 10 that were found by the public and one person bought almost all of them. Seems strange to corner the market?

Thats Interesting.! I assume the '59 is a one of a kind? Did PCGS finally grade the coin? I went to the poulation report but you must subcribe for that info..
