I just found this in a roll from the bank. I'm not sure whether the plating here was removed chemically,
by abrasion, or simply wasn't there when this cent was struck. What are your thoughts?

Kurt, I have seen this on a few coins, and grom the understanding I have of the plating process, it casn't have been done then. The curvature on the coin indicates that another "coin" or something of the same configuration was on it, not very likely, to be that precise), or as you say, likely dipped, but there again is the curvature of the "off-colored" area on both faces. I have seen many coins thet were "sintered", and others that looked like they had "stretch-marks" around the perimiter, but This type, has me confused. Maybe someone else can suggest something.

It's a genuine partial plating error.

Thanks, Mike for clarifying that point. I was wondering how it could have that particular configuration, but not having that experience, I'll put it down as a new item learned, and enjoy this day, as having learned something new.

Partial plating often assumes very strange patterns. I don't have an explanation for the great variety of patterns that are manifested.

The streaky pattern in the zinc-colored area is a reliable sign of authenticity, although it's not always present. The absence of blisters in the zinc-colored area is a secure indicator of authenticity.

One more question--does this coin have any collector value...is it "worth" getting slabbed?

The cost of slabbing will exceed the value of the coin.

It should be worth $15 to $20, I should think.
