More machine doubling. Interesting it is just on the mint mark? Uusally it is on both date and mint mark. Check the reverse and you will find more doubling there.

Hi Coop, thanks for the reply. I checked it over...obverse and reverse and don't see any machine doubling.

The second opinion would be ejection doubling. Usually machine doubling is affected on both sides, but ejection may touch certain areas. The metal does seem pushed in that area making me think it is mechanical doubling and not a RPM. Note the step appearance on your coin. I've seen that before and realized it wasn't collectable unless you want to catch a "newbie" on ebay with it.

Hmmm, I am one of those "newbie" buyers that got sucker punched with the last rolls I bought. The 1982d roll had 35 82d's, 2- 81d, 3- 80d, 1- 79d, 2-78d, 2- 77d, 1- 75d, 1- 73d, 2- 72d and 1- 73d. The 1979d roll had a 75 Canadian cent and basically most of the cents in the 4 rolls I purchased showed evidence of handling and were far from BU. The sales pitch was all to familiar... "never know what you will find, DDO's...DDR's etc. I don't know how some people sleep at night.

Daggit, you are now "one of us"! Sorry you had to fuind out the hard way that one must take EVERYTHING said on ebay, with a grain, no make that a handfull of salt! There are some honest sellers there, but they are like hens teeth, hard to find.
Now to your coin. I looked at it, and came to the ssame conclusion as Coop, Ejection doubling, and some MD also, from the looks of the "8", and the "1".
I'll say this: If I should send you a roll of 1982-D cents, they will be circulated, and made up of the '82's that come in many boxes sorted thru to make the date/rolls. No guarantee as to grade, and the large date, small dates, zinc, and copper coins will be as they came out of the tubes taken from the boxes. I am NOT an ebay seller! I do, however buy, on occasion.
My 2-cents worth.
Dick

Ebay is really hit or miss. I have had multiple auctions that have been duds and some that have been great. I stay away from any with the following words:
"not searched by me"
"never know what you will find"
"previous buyers report finding valuable varieties"
"stored away for 50 years"
I also stay away from people that use stock photos of huge piles of pennies. Usually a bad sign in my experience.
The best way I have found to buy pennies is to advertise in a local newspaper. Can cost $30-$40 but that is equal to the shipping on a few Ebay purchases and you get to inspect what you are buying ahead of time and can also walk away if people are not willing to deal. Once you hit that impulsive "Bid" button on Ebay you are stuck with that "Why did I just do that" feeling.

I have several boxes of wheats, that were bought in "lots. I tried small orders, and found out what I was going to get. Then went for multiple lot orders. They included "type sets of different denominations, which oddly enough counted a proof or mint set as a single item, ie, morgan IHC fe, etc. Then there was another "seller" that sold onlt wheats......I don't buy from her anymore..
I have learned that if the bidders are kept "private", RED FLAG! If they are afraid "people will talk", maybe there is a reason.
Yes I have been burned, not badly, generally, because the item can be used as a reminder of what one "forgot"! Or as Coop says, dor educational purposes. In fact I just "bit" on a 11 cent sale. No harm done, for $10.00, I'll check out most anything. Not EVERYTHING! Gotta rin, will edit later!
Okay, back from hospital. everything on good shape, for the shape it is in!
I am very curious. That is why I buy things, that most would avoud. It isn't the money. I just like to "see how they do it". In other words, you can seal one chicken grom my hen-house, but not two, because I know how you did it!

I have faired out pretty well in my past purchases on ebay, but as of late I'm not impressed. The last purchase had a very good feedback record and a lot of transactions but...hmmffff. I sent an email but no reply to my comments. I did privately purchase 34 rolls of assorted dates from a friend on another forum so I'm looking forward to receiving them.

"Newbies" sometimes learn quick when they get burned. That is if they catch on to the hook they swallowed. Some are like the Chickens that Dick mentioned. They get their heads cut off and boiled in hot water to have their feathers (money) picked off.
