I think at the time these came out...1999 and 2000 there was a lot of hype. That likely has died down don't ever hear much about them anymore, all I know is that there were a lot of problems with the dies. At the time this one was listed it was estimated at $18.00...prolly 25 cents now Laughing

Daggit, I thought I had posted a reply to this, but it is not in sight. I had asked you about a cent, 1989, that has 8, or 10 sides. Is this normal, or some special occasion? I don't recall seeing this on the other cents I have, (not that I have looked). thanks,
Dick

Wow. I only new that coins had two sides and an edge.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think I know what you mean Dick. I found a 1984-1991 with the 12 corners on the cent. Not that other years don't have the corners on them, just the examples I found going through my circulated stash.

If my memory serves me well enough, the 12 sided Canadian cents started in 1982 and went through 1996. All Canadian cents minted those years should have that shape.

Bob, and Coop, I'll have to go thru my Canadians, just to see what is there.
I just added two 2-cent euros, one fromSpain, and the other maybe Irish Republic. A Jamacan ten cents, and a b commonwealth of the Bahamas, all from less than15 rolls. Not counting the wheats found, so far.

It actually surprises me to see Canadian coins with that type of damage. I have always known the Canadian mint to have the highest quality control and very seldomly lets these get out of the mint.

Actually Bob this has become quite common, for every 20 that I pull from circulation I probaly see at least 3-5 with this...some worse than others. This is not unusual for 5, 10 and 25 cent circulating coins. 2001 was really bad and seems to me 2007 is close to it. I have also seen this on the circulating Olympic 25 cents. I didn't image the lettering in this one but It's just as bad.

So I guess you are saying that the recent coinage has suffered? Too bad. The Canadian mint made quite the name for itself with the quality of coins they put out. Still...I guess it happens to all of the mints at one time or another.
