A couple of Franklins

I'd searched the few rolls of Fanklins I have (a couple of times) but I forgot about the Dansco album. I found nothing in the rolls, but the album had a couple of decent finds. I'm pretty sure they are DDs.

The first was a 1948 D. It has minor doubling on the EPU and a little on the 19 of the date.

The second was a 1962 D with doubling on TRUST and the 62 of the date. I see two good notches - one in the first T of trust and the second on the bottom leg of the 2. Based on CONECA's description, this might be DDO-002.

Looks like you have a couple of goodies there. the first, for sure, and the "T" looks good. Nice find, and right under your nose!

If I'm searching older coins... I cheat. I figure that most anything signficant has already been found, so I look on the CONECA Master listings for the denomination/year/mint of the coin(s) I looking at. There are no photos, but reading the description gives me an idea of where to look. Here is the link...

As I've become a more seasoned DV hunter, I've come to realize that the real eye-popping doubled dies are few and far between. Most varietied require significant magnification. I don't even try with a loop -- the coins go straight to the microscope.

It is little finds like these that keep you motivated to keep searching.

Check the mint marks too. I found a 1954 S with an RPM.

Russelhome, I'm with you on going straight to the 'scope! My loupe is fine, but it means that O can only see if i have a 100 watt bulb next to me, and that gets hot,and un-comfortable, fast! So i bought a new smaller scope, and now It goes a bit faster., and a lot cooler.
