QSZ Stereo-zoom scope.

Bob, this is my scope.

[ It is .7-4.6X, continuous zoom, and both eye pieces are adjustable with adjustment for Retinal distances. It is great, but I need something that will give me more magnification, so I can s"ee" more of the details. My MD makes itd nearly impossible to pin down very small details, that I could see ordinarily, with little , or no trouble. That is why I can't get the focus any better. The TV screen is 27", and it makes the image clear, but I can't get a good photo of that. I havae a secomd scope, similar to yours. Is that the one you use for the forum? I also have a QX3, with an adaptor base that sits on the QSZ base, and gives the very fine focus adj, that the QX3 base does not. Maybe I don't make myself clear, as to what I AM LOOKING FOR, BUT, it requires very closeup viewing. I can go to 200X on the QX3, bit it does not have enough light, (yet). Does this make sense? The eye-pieces are 10X. Maybe if they were 20X, or even 30X, maybe that would do what I want. I have checked several links, (including the one you just gave me),but none indicate the availability of higher power eye-pieces.

Bob, That is the word I was looking for! not "macro", MICRO! I want to "get up close, and cozy with the details on a coin.

Digging??? You better believe it!! I dig thru all these culls I have gotten over the years looking for a variety, so I can show it on coppercoins.com website. just to prove they still exist! At least, that is what they tell me. The variety, that is.

Your eyepieces might be the solution. If your scope is .7-4.6x and you have 10x eyepieces, then you have a 7x-46x effective magnification. If this isn't working for you (but it should be), you could go to 15x eyepieces and get half again the magnification...10.5x-69x.

One word of caution, the more magnification you get, the better your optical quality needs to be. You might be able to get it to 100x, but if your optical quality isn't fantastic, you'll be looking at flow lines that look like blurry canyons.

I never go above 35x and have scarcely needed more. I search through coins at between 10x and 15x. My scope is .7x-3.5x with 10x eyepieces - effectively 7x-35x.

Hi Chuck, thanks for the reply, and info. I believe we both have the same scope, which when I first started here, I had no trouble seeing the details. Now my eye sight is below 20/200, with no frontal details, and have been declared "legally"blind. As a result my drivers license has been voided. I thought the eye-pieces might be the means to "see'a bit better, ( with greater magnification, and the resultant viewing problems taken into consideration), maybe the larger view would help. It does when projected on the TV from the camera.

Looking fo a nice middle of the road scope.Any suestions,$100-$200 range for new and anyone has one they no longer use it wo.ld be great for starters.I have tons of suspected errors,ddo,ddr,prm, ect,but need better p cs so you can help me better.Any suggestions.Thank you,Ken

Till you get a scope, keep setting things aside for when you get one for closer examination.

Chuck, I think you have the probale solution for me. I need to locate a bit more , as you said, 15X. I have to make a very large image to "see the details". The loss of my frontal vision hampers, but will NOT stop my searching! it just takes longer! Would you have any idea where these eye-pieces could be purchased?

Thats funny. I was going to go the other way. Looking for 5X ones. I wanted to see if I could get larger coins to include the complete obverse. The 10X 7.5-35X infinite zoom allow nice images of Dimes/Cents/Nickels get tougher. But anything larger is hard to get a full image. So I thought about changing the 10's to 5's. I want to buy a pair as I may not like them after I get them and they maybe for temporary use and not full time use.

Coop, my scope has a lens that screws on the lower portion of the scope for making images of large objects. I imagine chguck has a similar "add-on'. Makes it nice if you want a full face of a Morgan, or a Mexican $10 Peso of the Constitution year, (1957). They are very large. I don't recall now what measurement, but it is more than 41 MM. Larger than the dollar.
My need is to make a very large image of the coin, but not necessarily more detail. That I can establish with the Zoon. If it is large enough, I can see everything, then The zoom will give the details, as well.
