What do you prefer for storing unc rolls of Lincoln cents... do you leave them in the "OBW" paper rolls or do you prefer to take them out of the paper and store them in plastic tubes? Which is the better long-term solution? Any horror stories of damage with either method?

Robert,
When practical, I prefer to take them out of the paper and put them into tubes. I personally prefer the white sqaure tubes. To me, the tubes offer better protection and stacking capabilities than paper. On the other hand, if buying original bank wrapped rolls for resale rather than searching, I would leave them as is.

Cubes are much better than the OBW. You can stand, and stack the tubes, and there is very little danger that the tube will "unwrap". Some collectors prefer the OBW, but I personally dont.

seems like the main reason people swap em to tubes is to avoid toning. they're harder to sell in tubes, but you know nothing funky is going on with the color..
i'd rather have an original roll.. there's something sexy about it

Robert, allow me to give you a third option. The banks generally don't wrap their rolls, rather, they order them from the "friendly Armored car Delivery Service. They "roll their own" and then you will find a couple comercial "rollers".. The OBW, as we like to refer to is the old fashioned way banks USED to do business. Before the age of Billions of cents/year. That is why I decided to buy the boxes, some one solid date, others mixed, circulated dates, and make my own rolls. The late years are quite plentiful, in the higher grades, and at face, are cheaper. Naturally, if you wnat BU, then you will pay BU prices. Just a thought.
