I just came across these
I was going to post them separately but
they all look similar.

1954-S = the Date is messed up
1956 & 1957 = almost looks like an extra
letter after the B.

1) what happened?
2) are they worth keeping or is
this a common occurrence?

D,

The 54 S is a Die Chip in the 9 towards the 5 and down to the S. It is caused when a piece of the die used to punch the planchlet break's off. In this case it was over-use of the Die. It does have a premium for buyers but only a couple of $. The 56 and 57 are known as BIE errors. The same occured with a part of the Die chipping off. These too have a couple of dollars premium.

Some people collect BIE (or IBE) cents.
It's an area on the die that's prone to crack.
The easy ones to to find would be about 1953 to 1957 but they exist for other years too. They are harder to find on modern cents but they are out there too.
