SERVER change. IMPORTANT!!

Some time over the next three to five days coppercoins.com will be moving to a new server. What this is going to mean to you is that there could be some service delays or outages that should be very short lived. Because this site runs on a database and that database will be backed up for transfer at a specific time, there is a chance that some of your posts may not transfer if you happen to post between the time that we back things up here and the service moves to the new server.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but coppercoins is finally big enough to need its own server, and that's what it's gonna get! 30Gb of disk space!

Delays, delays, delays.

I sent out a broadcast e-mail that should have gone to everyone here, but appears that it may not have worked.

I will be in the process of rebuilding my PC tomorrow and learning a lot of new stuff about the server. I haven't yet had a chance to upload all the coppercoins files to the new server because I couldn't find where to upload them to - the server admin is coming to the house tomorrow to train me.

Coppercoins.com will be in transition phase Sunday morning and will be in that phase until around Wednesday. By Wednesday evening the site should be 100% operational on the new server.

what this means to you - no new information will be added to the site during the transition phase. Information may end up on the new or old server during this period, so it's best to just sit and wait for the transition to be over.

Any posts made here between Sunday and Wednesday could end up deleted if you happen to hit the board and make a post while it's still on the old server. The database backup (where the messages are) will be backed up in the morning before the transition begins, and will not be backed up again. Whatever is added to the old server (and database) during the transition will be lost.

Unfortunately, the best I can tell you is to not post anything important here for the next four days.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but it has always been my priority to provide the best and fastest service I can, and moving to a new server is a vital part of the expansion of coppercoins.com.

First phase of the setup is complete...I now have Windows XP loaded and running on my PC. A nice change from Windows ME. The first group of sites are transferring from the old server to the new server as the night progresses, and the transfer for coppercoins to the new server will begin as soon as some of these other sites are finished settling in. When you move the pointer for a domain name it takes up to three days for the name to point to its new home for everyone. This process is called "propogation" - coppercoins will begin propogation Monday. It should be completely in place by Thursday.
