Is there such a thing as a 1983 penny on a old copper planchet instead of the modern zinc planchet? I have heard stories, but have not seen any verification. Also if they are verified, how rare are they and have any of them been sold in public auctions?

There are copper 1989 - 1990 cents (p and or d?).

Haven't seen a 1983 but you would think a few old planchets would get in the machines.

There are a few 1983 cents struck on solid copper-alloy planchets. Billy Crawford found one about a year ago searching through rolls.
